This photograph brings me back to my childhood and teen years. I truly enjoyed running and dancing carefree in the soft and refreshing rain, especially when it was very hot.
Just as the natural rain is intended to refresh the ground, God refreshes our souls and sustains us through His Word.
In our spiritual lives, we will get depleted if we aren't consistently being refreshed and filled with the Word of God and His presence.
When it doesn't rain for a long time, it causes a drought. Which affects all things in nature.
The land becomes completely unproductive because of the lack of moisture.
It is the same way with our lives; without Christ and His Word, we become just like a dry and arid land -desperately thirsty and parched spiritually.
Our whole being is affected by the lack of LIFE; JESUS - HIS WORD.
In our daily lives, it is so easy to let time slip by with all the work, chores, and activities.
The constant pull of family and friends and other things will drain us if we are not intentional about making time to read and reflect on the Word of God.
Remember, without Christ, we can do nothing. (See John 15:5).
We desperately need Jesus.
Maintaining our spiritual walk with the Lord is crucial.
So what can we do to avoid a spiritual drought?
Here are some practical and intentional ways that I like to practice:
Carve out time in your daily routine to read the Bible.
As you read the Bible; read out loud, so you hear yourself speak the powerful Word of God.
Reflect on what you read.
Memorize Scripture.
Consider keeping a journal and writing down what God speaks to you through what you are reading.
Pray or sing the Scriptures; turn the Bible passages you are reading into a prayer or a song of worship unto God.
Spend time in God's presence; Play instrumental worship music as you quietly wait before Him. Currently, my favorite is any of Kyle Lovett Warfare & Worship Music (on YouTube). Also, lookup; 1 HOUR Soaking Worship Instrumental + Pads//Encounter God's Glory// Ambient Music for Prayer Time (on YouTube as well, going to this link will show you other Soaking Worship Instrumental Videos posted by Evangelist David Diga Hernandez).
Go to Church; Attend a Christian Church that teaches the full Bible and is on fire for God. Who practices the full Gospel of Jesus Christ. Surround yourself with other Christians who are on fire for God. Get involved in your Church. Join a Bible Study, or small group, or sign up to serve/volunteer in an area of Ministry. Hebrews 10:24-25 says; "Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near."
Taking these steps will nourish and refresh your soul.
Our heavenly Father God knows the importance of rain, naturally and spiritually.
He intentionally extends an invitation in Zechariah 10:1 (AMP) to; "Ask for rain from the Lord at the time of the spring rain. It is the Lord who makes the thunder clouds; And He will give them showers of rain, grass in the field to everyone."
God is always ready to pour out His mercy and blessings over our lives.
When we ask in faith, His spiritual rain is released over us.
Spend a few moments to examine your spiritual walk with Christ.
How is your relationship with Jesus?
Have you ever asked God for His refreshing and renewing spiritual rain?
Perhaps you find yourself today in an arid and drought-filled place spiritually as King David.
In his latter years, during his son Absalom's rebellion, he sought refuge in the wilderness of Judah, to hide from his enemies.
It was during this time that He wrote with confidence Psalm 63.
This Psalm was inspired from a place of desperation and loneliness.
Devote some time to read and reflect on this Psalm.
May we cry out to God with the same longing as King David.
"O God, You are my God;
I earnestly search for You.
My soul thirsts for You;
my whole body longs for You
in this parched and weary land
where there is no water." Psalm 63:1 (NLT)
Isn't it amazing that through Jesus we can be refreshed and renewed and draw closer to the Father's heart?
Pray and ask God to renew and fill you with His Spirit.
Ask the Holy Spirit to open up the heavens and pour out His spiritual rain, and invade any depleted and drought-filled areas of your heart with the winds and rain of His Holy Spirit.
Let's dig a little deeper;
Consider the following Scriptures and allow God's Word to REFRESH and RENEW your soul;
GOD'S WORD REFRESHES US
"You gave abundant showers, O God; You refreshed Your weary inheritance." (Psalm 68:9 NIV)
"Passing through the Valley of Weeping (Baca), they make it a place of springs; The early rain also covers it with blessings. They go from strength to strength [increasing in victorious power]; Each of them appears before God in Zion." (Psalm 84:6-7 AMP)
“They waited for Me [and for My Words] as for the rain, And they opened their mouths as for the spring rain." (Job 29:23 AMP)
"They longed for Me to speak as people long for rain.
They drank My words like a refreshing spring rain." (Job 29:23 NLT)
*May we wait for Jesus and long for His Word as drought-filled lands await rain.*
GOD'S WORD RENEWS AND REVIVES US
According to dictionary.com; RENEWAL is;
(to REVIVE, to RESTORE to a former state; to MAKE NEW or as if new again)
"This is my comfort in my affliction,
That Your Word has revived me and given me life." (Psalm 119:50 AMP)
"I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have revived me and given me life."
(Ps. 119:93 AMP)
"I am greatly afflicted; Renew and revive me [giving me life], O Lord, according to Your Word."
(Psalm 119:107 AMP)
"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;" (Psalm 138:7a AMP)
"My earthly life clings to the dust; Revive and refresh me according to Your Word." (Psalm 119:25 AMP)
"Will You not revive us and bring us to life again, That Your people may rejoice in You?"
(Ps 85:6 AMP)
Abba Father, thank You for Your Word that refreshes and renews us.
Thank you for each person reading this blog post. Renew and refresh them according to Your Word.
May their hunger for Your Word increase.
May they go from strength to strength as they depend on Your Word.
In the Name of Jesus, I come against all weariness and command it to go!
I pray that a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit will move in each life, and in each home right now.
Lord, invade any depleted and drought-filled areas of each heart with the rain of Your Holy Spirit. I declare open heavens. I pray Your abundant rain begins to pour out over each life at this moment.
As they surrender to Christ and meditate on Your Word, I declare a refreshing, and renewal over their life like never before. In Jesus' precious Name, Amen.
Your friend in Christ,
Ruthy Villanueva
